About Lisa Billingham’s Practice
Lisa’s purpose as a hypnotherapist is to help you to achieve your goals in life. You may wish to improve your weight control, or stop smoking. You may wish to eat more healthily, become more relaxed, exercise regularly, or achieve some other life improvement.
Hypnotherapy can assist you in all areas of your life – health, business, and family life. It is a pleasant state – like daydreaming – in which you are aware of your surroundings but feel very relaxed.
Lisa works with adults and children 12 years and older, and specialises in anxiety treatment (including phobias and habit control), and weight management. She has offices in North Beach and Warwick.
She provides a focused, professional, confidential service to clients using a range of modalities including hypnotherapy, enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, hypnomeditation, hypno-analysis, and Parts Therapy.
Health fund rebates are available from most funds, depending on level of cover, and Lisa also offers concessions for pensioners and Health Card holders.
Sometimes, when people are thinking of making an appointment with a hypnotherapist, they wonder what the consultation will include.
Typically, if you make an appointment with Lisa, she will ask you to complete a short form prior to the first appointment. This includes some background details, plus information on what you wish to achieve (e.g. managing weight, decreasing anxiety).
The first consultation usually involves discussing what you wish to achieve in more detail, using what you have put on the form as a starting point. You will also discuss any factors which you think may have contributed to the current circumstances. This could include thinking of how you behave in certain situations, and how you would like to behave. Once this part is completed, she will then work together with you to create a very specific description of what you want to change, including statements, and a post-hypnotic suggestion.
This process helps your conscious and subconscious to assist in achieving your goals.
When you are ready, you are guided into a relaxed state (called hypnosis), and she will present to you the goals which you have agreed plus the statements which you have worked on together. This section also includes a post hypnotic suggestion (which has also been agreed before the start), which will assist you to keep focused on your goals once the session is finished.
Most clients find this part (hypnosis) extremely enjoyable and very relaxing. The vast majority of people will be able to hear and remember everything that is said, and the few people who do not remember immediately afterwards will find that they remember a short time later.
The last part is to bring you back to full awareness at your own pace (not to ‘wake you up’ as you have not been asleep – just very relaxed!). You will also be given an opportunity to discuss any tasks to be done (e.g. you may be given a CD or MP3 recording for you to listen to before the next appointment, or asked to monitor progress towards your goal).
Please remember: you are always in control of what happens. It is Lisa’s job to help you achieve your goal as easily as possible.
