About Anthony’s Practice

Anthony Gilmour is a Psychotherapist and Clinical Hypnotherapist with over twenty years of experience in the field. Prior to this Tony was in business management and was Managing Director of an international engineering company for 5 years before getting his government-accredited qualifications and setting up a private practice in Psychotherapy.

Tony was also the CEO and Treasurer of the Australian Hypnotherapists association Victoria for a number of years and is a supervisor for other therapists. Although his main focus is anxiety and depression, he has also worked with a number of professional athletes and businessmen to help them realise their full potential, also giving seminars to sporting clubs and businesses.

Tony has the ability to take complex psychological concepts, simplify them and present them in a way that just seems common sense.

Hypnotherapy is an important tool when it comes to the treatment of mental health disorders or addictions. However, when considering hypnotherapy there’s some important information to keep in mind. Melbourne has at this stage no regulations on who can practice hypnotherapy. A person who does a two-day course in hypnosis training can set themselves up as a hypnotherapist and practice. Compare this to a hypnotherapist who has attended a government accredited training program to receive a recognised Diploma in clinical hypnotherapy that would require thousands of hours of study and practice in hypnotherapy, counselling and psychology, and you will see there will be a great divide in the quality of therapy you can expect.

Accredited member associations such as the Australian Hypnotherapists Association (AHA) or the Australian Society of Clinical Hypnotherapists (ASCH) vet all applications to make sure members have appropriate training, qualifications and experience. These memberships allow the therapist to offer some health fund rebates and are bound by a code of ethics. They also require ongoing personal development and monthly supervision to remain a member.

If you’re seeking help with hypnosis for smoking around Oakleigh, Cranbourne, Knox or similar areas then our Dandenong clinic in Melbourne’s south-east is the ideal solution.
